Why Did You Decide to Become a Periodontist?

Dentistry first caught Dr. Khan’s eye when she was in high school. She soon learned that it required a unique skill set, one that seamlessly combines both science and art, and she was quickly hooked. She ultimately decided to focus on periodontics because the work was interesting to her, and she liked the fact that it would give her the ability to dramatically change someone’s health and appearance for the better.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Saba Khan is a periodontal and dental implant specialist who graduated from Indiana University, School of Dentistry, Indianapolis for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry. She has been successfully practicing Periodontics & placing dental implants since 2005, and is an expert in providing the popular All-on-4 procedure.

Dr. Khan is unique among her colleagues by being a current faculty member at the University of Chicago- Illinois (UIC) College of Dentistry, a position she’s held since 2007. She serves in the periodontics department and works with post-graduate residents. In this capacity, she evaluates, implements, and supervises students in both traditional and state-of-the-art periodontal therapies and dental implant procedures. Also, she teaches her own continuing education courses for dental professionals, and her work has been featured in several peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Khan is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and the American Academy of Periodontology. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology & Dental Implants, a status achieved by only 1/3rd of periodontists.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Khan and her husband, Mazhar, have two boys, Mubashir and Ibrahim. They currently live in nearby Morton Grove, and she is very involved in the community. Dr. Khan is an elected Village Trustee & has been dedicated to public service for over 15 years. In her spare time, she is an avid runner and also likes to play badminton.
